1) Sign up

2) Download and install softwares
Install the following softwares:
- Google Earth Application for visualizing the participative map
NoiseTube Client (Windows only) aims to tag your recordings and extract their loudness in dB(A).
- Respect of your privacy: no sound is sent to our server, only its extracted loudness
- Once installed, configure the properties.ini file by changing the username line
- If you are rich and have a GPS built-in smartphone, install this application to be located outside
3) Action!
- Before recording: be sure to configure the MicroTrack II recorder:
- Record format: mono 44Khz WAV
- The record level should be adjusted as shown in Figure 1
- If you have a smartphone and are outside, start the GPS application to record your location. Be sure to synchronize the time with the sound recorder
- Start recording!
4) After recording
Start the NoiseTube Client (execute noisetube.bat file):
- Load your sound file, the loudness is automatically extracted (it can take few minutes)
- (optional) Load your recorded location from your smartphone, its synchronization with the loudness data will be automatically computed
- Tag parts of your sound (watch the video on the right)
- To create a tag on a interval, you first need to create an interval (left mouse button to mark its start and right mouse button to mark its end), then click on the tag button, fill the information and save it
- To modify or delete a tagged interval, click on the colored rectangle to get the dialog box
- Send the results to our website
5) visualize the result
- See your (outside) sound exposure on our map
- Coming soon: see our indicators
- Measure your loudness exposure for each of your sound's source, your location or your time period of your everyday life.
- See their evolution at the individual and collective level
- compare your exposure with other participants
